If you wander where to go in Burgas try The Pier. This is one of the symbols of the city and a favorite place for citizens and guests of Burgas.
Built in 1936, the bridge was with a steel structure, and the platform was built with wooden joists. It is connected to a special stone staircase next to the panoramic Sea Garden path and the Casino. In the middle 80s of the 20th century old bridge was reconstructed with a massive concrete structure.
The bridge is an integral part of the traditions of the biggest Bulgarian holidays – St. Nicholas Day and Epiphany. Every year on St. Nicholas’ Day (Feast of Bourgas) sailors throw wreaths from the Bridge in memory of dead seamen and fishermen. A cycle is performed a solemn service for health and prosperity – Bishop throws ritually cross in the sea, for which brave swimmers compete. It is believed that whoever retrieves the cross from the water, will be healthy and happy throughout the year.
